Derry City & Strabane District Council have funded a programme of digital courses to be delivered across the North West in 2015–2016.
Courses are aimed at young people and adults aged 14+. Each hub will deliver the following 3 courses – with 10 participants in each course. A fourth course in digital fabrication is being offered at the Nerve Centre to any interested participants.
Courses on offer currently include:
• OCN Level 2 in Creative Media (across North West)
This course will introduce participants to basic/intermediary skills in graphic design and digital photography. The 20-hour course (delivered over a number of sessions) will provide an insight into how to design artwork (posters / leaflets etc) on an Apple Mac computer and demonstrate how to digitally manipulate and enhance photographs using the latest industry software.
• OCN Level 2 in Music Production (across North West)
This course will introduce participants to basic/intermediary skills in making and recording music in the modern digital studio. The 18-hour session will provide an insight into digital music making on an Apple Mac computer and demonstrate how to create, record and mix music using the latest music industry software.
• OCN Level 2 in Video Production (across North West)
This course will introduce participants to basic/intermediary skills in video capture and digital video editing. The 18-hour session will provide an insight into the latest digital video techniques on an Apple Mac computer and demonstrate how to edit, save and store digital video using the latest industry software. Participants will be shown exciting techniques to liven up filmmaking – green screen, game capture, action capture (using GoPros), drone videography and more…
• OCN Level 2 in Digital Fabrication (in Nerve Centre)
This course will introduce participants to a range of technology and processes available at the FabLab. FabLab’s (Fabrication Laboratories) are an initiative of the Centre for Bits and Atoms at MIT which place Digital Design and Fabrication tools into an internationally networked community which allows users to design and manufacture ‘practically anything’. Open Source 2d and 3d design software is used in conjunction with equipment including a 3d printer, a laser cutter, a 3d router, a vinyl cutter and a milling machine to allow users to design and manufacture almost anything that they can imagine.
